Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti was celebrated with great passion and enthusiasm on Wednesday, 21st February 2024 at the DY Patil School of Management, Belapur. The event was dedicated to honour the legendary Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his great contributions to Indian history.

The festivities commenced at 10:30 am with a majestic rally starting from Mahakali Chowk and culminating at the DY Patil School of Management campus. The procession featured 12 dholes, 6 Tashas, and 3 dhwajs accompanied by a palkhi and Jyoti symbolizing Shivaji Maharaj. Students adorned in traditional attire participated enthusiastically, with girls performing the folk dance “Lezim” which added a vibrant charm to the event, resonating with the rich cultural heritage of Maharashtra and infusing the atmosphere with positive energy and devotion.

Upon reaching the campus, the ceremonial rituals commenced with Ganesh Puja and Shivaji Maharaj Aarti, invoking blessings for a successful and auspicious celebration. It was followed by Saraswati Vandana, paying homage to the goddess of knowledge. Next, the National Anthem was played, filling the air with patriotism. The stage was graced by our esteemed speakers, including the Director, Dr. R Gopal, Dr.Gagandeep Nagra, Dean and Dr. Ashish. They stirred the audience with their motivating speeches adding further to the ceremonial spirit of the event.

After that, a cultural act was performed which showcased Shivaji Maharaj’s acts of bravery and achievements, emphasizing his role in building a formidable army, navy, and effective diplomacy. The speakers talked about his innovative warfare tactics and progressive administration skills which are still regarded as a benchmark for effective management, inspiring the attending students.

The event was concluded by 12:15 pm with a graceful play or ‘powada’ on “Afzal Khan’s vadh” where students enacted various historical characters, depicting the infamous incident where Shivaji Maharaj killed Afzal Khan during a truce negotiation, symbolizing his valour and courage. Drones and cameras captured the entire event, preserving the memories of this successful celebration of one of India’s greatest rulers, serving as a testament to the timeless legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The event garnered positive feedback from attendees, igniting a wave of culture and devotion among students making it yet another successful venture for the Cultural and Literary Committee, led by student Cultural committee and Dr. Roshni Sawant, the Associate Professor and Faculty Head of the Cultural and Literary Committee.
